Navigating Transitions Smoothly During Turbulent Times

Why the Advantage Point System of Change Management?

The Advantage Point System of Change Management is an uncomplicated, step-by-step approach to managing transitions. Many managers know what to do, but they don't know how to do it. They have the knowledge, but don't know how to focus this knowledge into a believable vision and procedure. They don't know how to turn the new mission into reality in a way that the transition is smooth. The success of the Advantage Point System of Change Management is that each manager is equipped with a unique, systematic system of leading work teams through transitions.

What are the specific elements of the Advantage Point System of Change Management?

Change management is the balance of three significant factors: challenge, community and control.

Factor One: The challenge factor is the mission of the change. The mission will be well defined and owned by the people facing the change.

Factor Two: The community factor is the people of the change. The community culture during transitional times can be positive or disruptive. Gossip and negative rumors can spread through the corporate grapevine if positive lines of communication aren't effectively established and nourished.

Factor Three: The control factor is the stability of change. All levels of management and workers often feel out of control because change undermines personal security and significance. Security and significance can be restored when the proper control structures are in place. However, too much control stifles creativity and flexibility. A few guiding, well-defined guidelines act as guardrails on the winding highway of change. They protect from disaster, but allow freedom of movement and expression along the way. The key to facilitating these control systems rests in the team meetings. Effective communication is central to stability. Develop highly creative, productive, and energetic staff meetings and your control will not seem hierarchical, but collegial.

So what's so different about these factors of control?

First, there aren't fifteen, ten, or even seven -- only three. Second, they do not create a bureaucracy, but allow for a culture of accountability that is not controlling. Third, they are team focused, not management focused. Fourth, The method is simple. It is not complicated. We are not suggesting that the psychological factors of transition management are simple. The emotional issues are often anything but simple. However, we often make them more complicated by ignoring them. Our step-by-step approach will help the managers face these emotional issues with confidence
